Richard Hilton of Pagosa Springs will spend a year in jail for a car accident that killed a girl who was riding her bike on Highway 50 in Delta. The girls mother was also seriously injured in the accident.

Hilton reportedly fell asleep at the wheel when his car veered off the road onto the shoulder and struck 10-year-old Samantha Carlson and her mother Lorry in August. He pleaded guilty to two counts of careless driving involving injury or death which carries a sentence of 10 days to 1 year per count.
