Man indicted for fatal car accident

The Durango Herald reported yesterday that a Federal grand jury indicted a man in a tragic motor vehicle accident that killed two people just two months ago near Capote Lake.

The man, Jamie L. Wood, was indicted on two counts of vehicular homicide in the deaths of two women who were Southern Ute Indian Tribe members. Wood is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs, including marijuana and other substances.

Details of the accident on Colorado Highway 151, north of Ignacio, say that Wood's Plymouth Voyager van crossed over the center of the road to hit the victims' Lincoln Aviator head-on. The driver of the Lincoln escaped from his burning car without injury, but his wife and daughter were trapped inside and died.

Wood faces four to 12 years in prison for each of the deaths.
