Six Teens Injured In Rollover Accident In Grand Junction

Three teens are in critical condition at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction following a single-car accident on Wednesday.

In total, six teenagers, all from Glenwood Springs, were injured.

It appears a westbound Nissan Sentra driven by a teen, 17, veered off the roadway and through a deer fence, according to Colorado State Patrol troopers.

The vehicle then went airborne over a dry creekbed before hitting the side of an embankment and rolling over.

The kids range in age from 15 to 19. Four of them were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the car.

Speed is being investigated as a possible contributing factor, but alcohol and/or drugs are not thought to be involved. The investigation is ongoing.

Crane Removes SUV From Backyard Following Crash

Thankfully no one was injured when a Grand Junction woman crashed her SUV through her garage and into her neighbor’s backyard.

Following the accident, the big question was how to remove the vehicle from the backyard without causing more damage.

The woman hired a crane to lift the SUV up and over her neighbor’s house. The action -- which took a little more than an hour -- drew the attention of several onlookers.

The home, where the SUV came to rest, has no structural damage, according to the home owner. A freezer from the drivers' garage stopped the Jeep from driving through their neighbor's house.

Go-Cart Driver Causes Accident in Grand Junction

A man driving a go-cart through the streets of Grand Juction while he was holding a beer caught the attention of police. They tried to stop the man, but he would not stop and led them on a go-cart speed chase. He drove down alleys and around buildings.

The man reportedly caused an accident when he pulled onto one street, and made a car swerve and hit something. It wasn't clear what the car hit but it wasn't another vehicle. There were no injuries.

A young boy was a passenger in the go-cart. The man fled, leaving the boy in the go-cart. The police were not able to apprehend the man but believe they know who he is. He will be charged with multiple violations.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Shannon Weidemann

Man arrested for year-old car accident

After a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred nearly one year ago, a man was just arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and other charges.

The man, Jade Brandon Huskey, was originally thought to be a passenger in the car that killed a woman named Molly Gomez, presumably the driver. At the scene of the accident, Huskey admitted to drinking too much and reportedly had a blood-alcohol level of 0.26, according to hospital records.

Upon further investigation by the Colorado State Patrol, it has come to light that Huskey may have been the driver. He will appear in court today.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Staff Writer

Man indicted for fatal car accident

The Durango Herald reported yesterday that a Federal grand jury indicted a man in a tragic motor vehicle accident that killed two people just two months ago near Capote Lake.

The man, Jamie L. Wood, was indicted on two counts of vehicular homicide in the deaths of two women who were Southern Ute Indian Tribe members. Wood is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs, including marijuana and other substances.

Details of the accident on Colorado Highway 151, north of Ignacio, say that Wood's Plymouth Voyager van crossed over the center of the road to hit the victims' Lincoln Aviator head-on. The driver of the Lincoln escaped from his burning car without injury, but his wife and daughter were trapped inside and died.

Wood faces four to 12 years in prison for each of the deaths.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Staff Writer

2006 Summit County car crashes totaled 687

An interesting article appeared yesterday in the Summit Daily News, detailing new statistics released by the Colorado State patrol about motor vehicle accidents in Summit County.

While accidents that cause fatalities and injuries are decreasing, crashes related to DUI are increasing.

Nearly half, or 330, of the 687 accidents in Summit County in 2006 resulted from drivers exceeding the speed limit. Sixty of the crashes happened on I-70 between mile markers 210 and 212 near the Eisenhower Tunnel.

The second most common cause for motor vehicle accidents in the county was lane violations or illegal lane changes.

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs was the third most common cause of traffic accidents in the county. Last year 47 accidents were DUI-related, representing a 60 percent increast from 2005.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Staff Writer

Avalanche near Winter Park buries vehicles

A number of motor vehicles were buried with people in them Saturday in what a Denver official called Colorado's largest avalanche in history.

The mammoth accident on US-40, just 60 miles to the west of Denver, amazingly resulted in no injuries or deaths. The rescue efforts began just after the avalanche hit at 10:30 a.m. Everyone trapped in their vehicles was successfully rescued because of the quick and well-implemented efforts of the Colorado Department of Transportation's avalanche rescue team.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Staff Writer
