Accidents too common in Snowmass Canyon

An article in The Aspen Times points out the dangers of driving on the downvalley-bound entrance to Snowmass Canyon on Highway 82 in snowy, icy or simply cold weather. Too many motor vehicle accidents occur in this area each year.

"That's a problematic area," Basalt fire chief Scott Thompson said. His district sent ambulances to roughly nine accidents at mile marker 30 last winter. He said there are probably more calls to that spot than any other in Snowmass Canyon. "We've had no serious injuries - yet," he said.

Just this past Wednesday, there were two crashes involving a total of six vehicles. Though no injuries were reported, the problematic road has raised concern among many. The Colorado Department of Transportation continues to investigate the problems.

If you or someone close to you has been involved in a motor vehicle accident with injuries, you may want to contact a personal injury attorney for a free case evaluation.
